Throughout our lives, we find ourselves in a constant state of change. We go through life-changing moments that alter the way we view and interact with the world around us. It can be difficult to adjust to new realities, but our faith in God helps us see that these changes are natural and will only bring us closer to Him.
The darkness of winter quietly comes to life with spring followed by the blazing heat of summer. For some the cool winds of autumn bring relief and the excitement of a new season. For others, fall means the ending of a growing season, back-to-school chaos, and a new routine. Let’s switch up our focus a bit. With these Bible verses about changing seasons, let’s focus on the distinct periods of time we call seasons of life.
We have seasons of change in our personal lives, we marry, have babies, find ourselves as soccer moms, and then empty nesters. As we drop our youngest child off at college we find ourselves with new emotions and struggling to accept our new season.
Or we can start our seasons with graduating from high school, studying through college and preparing for a career (with a whole lot of fun and life lessons on the side). We jump into our career with both feet and an enthusiasm that is often reserved for the youth. At some point that enthusiasm fades or our expectations fail us. We decide to look for another company or another job altogether.
Perhaps your season of life is one of chronic pain as you struggle to understand the health problems that are stealing your joy.
The scenario plays out in thousands of different ways and one thing we can count on is life never staying the same. Knowing that seasons are not meant to be permanent can bring us hope.

What does the Bible Say about Seasons Changing?
The Bible talks about seasons changing. Many of these seasons are seasons of pain and joy. But, grief and sorrow are seasons just as prosperity and fruitfulness.
We go through seasons of spiritual enlightenment and spiritual darkness as well. Have you ever felt as if God was far away and had surely forsaken you in your time of need? Perhaps you have just fought a battle of the soul, dark and lonely, struggling to believe and find yourself making it through and basking in the light and love of our Heavenly Father.
The first passages that comes to mind for verses about changing seasons are the well-known ones in Ecclesiastes.
Wise King Solomon pretty much sums up the various changes and circumstances that we experience. So often we fight these seasons of change, resist them because we are afraid, but they are a part of our growth, a faith that is only a result of relying on God.
And look at the story of Ruth! She endured and remained faithful through so many different seasons of change in her life.
What does the Bible Say Time and Seasons?
According to the Bible, time and seasons are inter-connected. It literally tells us there is a time and a season for everything. And just as the time on our clocks pass by and become a yesterday, so do the seasons we experience.
We see God setting times and seasons in order right at the beginning of creation.
And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years. (Genesis 1:14)
After God destroys the earth with a flood, He promises to never hurt mankind to that multitude again and placed a rainbow in the sky. His promise is worth reading.
“Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” (Genesis 8:21-22)
The Children of God recognized this down through the ages, relying on it for strength in an uncertain world.
“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.” (Daniel 2:20-21)
Bible Verses About Changing Seasons
Seasons of change can be difficult, but rest assured, God is working all things for your good! Seasons change but God remains the same. Aren’t you thankful? We know that He has a plan for our lives and has promised to never leave us or forsake us.
- But you remain the same, and your years will never end. (Psalm 102:27)
- Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither – whatever they do prospers. (Psalm 1:1-3)
- He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. (Psalm 104:19)
- As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. The Bible tells us that we will go through many seasons of change during our time here on Earth. Why is that so important? Because it gives us hope for when we are in a bad season – that it won’t last forever and a better season is on the horizon.
No matter how many bad decisions or choices you’ve made that have put you on the path you are currently on, God can (and will) change that!
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:19)
Seasons changing in Revelation give us hope for what is to come. Revelation is full of “scary” content if you ask me, but these beautiful verses show us that there will come a time when God’s plan is fulfilled and our life will be better than we could ever imagine right now.
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:1-4)
I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. (Revelations 21:22-24)

During the course of our lives, we will experience many different seasons. Just like the weather goes from cold to warm to hot to cold again, we will inevitably experience our own hot and cold seasons (happy and sad).
As I mentioned earlier, it’s important for us to recognize that seasons of life are simply seasons and we are not meant to dwell in them for our entire lives. They are intended to change, to ebb and flow, to grow and subside.
Thankfully, God provides us plenty of hope and encouragement in scripture. Hopefully, these Bible verses about seasons of life encourage you and help you to remain strong no matter where you find yourself.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. (1 John 3:2-3)
Bible Verses about Hard Seasons
We probably seek out Bible verses about hard seasons more than any other seasonal scriptures because this is when we need the encouragement the most. God teaches us over and over that He is with us, He does not change even when our circumstances do, and that He is working all things for our good.
- But I trust in you, Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hands. (Psalm 31:14-15)
- Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)
- Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
The seasons may change, but God is always in control. He can bring the rain or dry up all our tears and give us hope for a brighter tomorrow. Let Him be your anchor when you’re feeling lost and alone.
As we enter a new season, it’s important to remember that our faith should remain unchanged no matter what happens in life or on earth. Our Father is always there for us and He will never leave nor forsake us; not even when everything changes around us. This new year may bring many changes with it–indeed some good ones while others painful-but through them all we must cling tightly to His hand and know that He has this situation under control. So, as you go into your next season of life (whatever it might be) keep trusting Him who loves you more than anyone else can ever love you!
