How I Earned over $19K Last Year with My Christian Blog

Are you a Christian blogger hoping to eventually earn consistent income with your blog?

While money should never be the primary reason you start a Christian blog, Christian blogging can be a great way to generate consistent monthly income.

Some Christian bloggers simply want to earn enough to cover the expense associated with running their blog. Others hope to earn enough to replace their regular income.

Either way, if you want to earn real income, you have to have a plan for success.

Below, I’m going to share with you how I’m able to earn over $19k every year with my Christian blog without selling products or doing affiliate marketing.

My 2022 Blog Income Report

The truth is that I actually earned around $40K last year with my Christian blog. I do affiliate marketing and I sell digital products and my blogging courses.

Here is a simple breakdown of my 2022 earnings:

  • Ad Revenue – $19K+
  • Pinterest – $5200
  • Affiliate Marketing – $4700
  • Product Income – $1000
  • Teachable Courses – $10K

But the $19k that I’m going to focus on in this discussion was earned without “selling” or “promoting” any type of products.

So, how did I do it?

Simple! I generated enough organic traffic to qualify for MediaVine ad revenue.

Ad Revenue is like passive income. You aren’t selling or promoting anything. You just have to keep bringing traffic to your site.

For anyone who doesn’t want to worry about having to create and promote their own products, this is the best way to still generate consistent monthly income.

My Blog Income Strategy

I’ve helped hundreds of Christian bloggers over the last few years. There are 2 reasons most Christian bloggers don’t achieve the success they are hoping for:

  1. They are writing about the wrong stuff.
  2. They get distracted by all the “things”

You can’t just write about whatever you want and hope to generate traffic. You have to figure out what type of biblical content your target audience is searching for online and write about that.

You also have to discipline yourself to avoid all the “shiny things” in the blogging world. If you follow several blogging bloggers, every email you get from the it tempting you to try the next helpful thing. You get so focused on trying all the latest trends that you never actually make progress on your own site!

My Strategy is pretty simple.

  1. Solid SEO Keyword Research
  2. Published as much content as possible during 1st year.
  3. Did NOT start an email list until year 3
  4. Did NOT worry about building a social following until year 3
  5. Guest Posting to increase the amount of content I could publish.

During the first 2 years of launching my site, my ONLY goal was generating organic traffic so I could reach the traffic requirement for MediaVine (50K monthly sessions).

The first step towards achieving that was to ensure I had a solid content plan. I did competitor research to figure out the keywords and topics my target audience was actually searching for online.

I used guest posts to increase the amount of content I was able to publish and during the first 6 months, I was able to publish 3-4 posts per week. Because of that, I was able to reach MediaVine requirements in about a year and a half.

After the 2nd year, I didn’t publish as much new content but, instead, focused on updating older content which continued to generate more traffic.

As for all the other “things” that can take up your time?

I did not start an email list nor did I get active with social media until AFTER I reached MediaVine traffic.

Because I wasn’t spending time writing and responding to emails or falling into the time suck that is social media, I had so much more time to publish more content in those first 2 years.

I’m not going to lie! Achieving the results I’ve been able to achieve wasn’t easy and it didn’t happen overnight.

It took a plan and, more importantly, it took the discipline to stick to that plan. You can’t effectively work on multiple goals at once.

Make TRAFFIC your main goal and just focus on that for a solid year and you WILL see results.

Oh, and did I mention that in 2021, I started two new sites? Within 18 months, one of them qualified for SheMedia ads (20K page views) and is now earning monthly revenue. The other site is on the cusp of qualifying as well!

My goal for 2023 is to get those two new sites to qualify for MediaVine by the end of the year.

One Last Thing

You might be reading this thinking that of course, I can achieve the results because I literally do this full-time.

Yes, my kids are grown and this IS my job so I have unlimited hours to commit to it. But I’m also managing three sites, my courses, an Etsy Shop, and multiple other projects.

But you shouldn’t strive to accomplish exactly what I’ve accomplished.

You have to figure out a strategy that works for YOUR time schedule. How many hours do you have each week to devote to blogging stuff?

Make sure the tasks you are doing during those hours matter! If you only have a few hours, you should be writing more blog content – not worry about social media or building an email list.

I’m able to accomplish all that I do – not because I”m some kind of Christian blogging ninja! I’m able to accomplish so much because I have a strategy that works for my time – and I stay disciplined with it.

I’d love to help you!
