First, let’s talk about the stress and crazy for a minute. I was blown away at the number of decisions that had to made. It started out easy like, yes, we want four bedrooms and three bathrooms (we need space with my gang of kids!) but quickly became difficult.
Are two garage doors enough? How wide do they need to be? My husband doesn’t seem to trust my parking skills (the first Bible verse needs to be a prayer for patience for our spouses during this process!).
But so much for than that, we want our homes to be a place of refuge from the storms of life as well as a space that loves and honors God. How do we put a spiritual application on such a thought-consuming earthly process?
Grab a cup of your favorite hot drink and maybe a notebook because you are going to want to keep a few of these verses where you can see them every day. Let’s dig into Bible verses for new home construction and see what God has to say about our exciting process.

Bible Verses for New Home Construction
Are there Bible verses about the home? Absolutely, and the spiritual implication makes one pause and think.
Is God first in my home? Am I teaching my children to serve the Lord? Am I being a light and a witness to all who come here?
As owners of the home, we set the stage. We decide how we serve the Lord in our home, what worldly attachments are allowed as well as what influences we stand against.
Let’s build a godly home together!
Proverbs 24:3-4
Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; By knowledge the rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches. Proverbs 24:3-4 NKJV
Wisdom is having knowledge as well as the ability to put it into action and apply it to everyday life. We know from Proverbs 1 that knowledge comes from reverence and humility before the Almighty God.
Let’s put that together. This verse tells us that if God is the center of our home and we are in obedience to Him, the rooms are filled with His goodness. Isn’t that what we want? A home filled with the goodness of God?
Joshua 24:15
And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of [a]the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”Joshua 24:15
I love Joshua’s declaration here! After years of battling the heathen in Canaan and freeing the Promised Land for the Israelites, Joshua’s work is finished. He has led the people with courage and faith.
It is now up to the Children of Israel to live righteously or in disobedience, to keep God the center of their homes or to forget all that He has done for them. We have that same choice.
Psalm 127:1
Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. Psalm 127:1
The term “dysfunctional” is a popular one when talking about families. That dysfunction is a direct result of not putting God first in your home. It has a rippling affect going down through the generations and creating chaos in the lives of all it touches.
Let’s declare now to let God build our homes!
Proverbs 14:1
The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands. Proverbs 14:1
If we go back to the concept of wisdom, we know that the decisions we make must be based on the truth we find in scripture. Those decisions affect everyone in our home as well as our relationships.
Studying scripture, praying with your family, keeping God in your marriage, and training your children in the Lord are all ways a wise woman builds her home.
Hebrews 13:1-2
Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. Hebrews 13:1-2
We are instructed to be the light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16) and one way we do this is by showing God’s love to all who enter our home. Paul takes it one step further and tells us that many have entertained angels without knowing it.
Let’s fill our home with God’s love, grace, and hospitality so that everyone who enters is surrounded by that light.
John 14:1-2
Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:1-2
While we are talking about filling our homes with God’s love and peace, it is important to keep all of this in perspective. Jesus reminds us that this home is only temporary. He has a home for us in Heaven.
No matter what is going on with your current home or what might happen with your new house build, keep perspective. It is easy to get wrapped up in earthly concerns because they are important. The here and now is very important, BUT there is so much more once all of this is gone.
2 Corinthians 5:1
For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Corinthians 5:1
Paul reminds of us what Jesus mentions in the above verse. Whatever our earthly home is, whether humble or significant, it is not permanent nor is it the most important.
In the middle of a house build, we need to keep our spiritual life in perspective. Our eternal home is much more important than our earthly home.
Proverbs 15:6
In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, But in the revenue of the wicked is trouble. Proverbs 15:6
Keeping the spiritual perspective, we know that treasure here is not material. What kind of treasures does a righteous home contain?
These are treasures of God, including the fruits of the spirit. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.
Having your home filled with peace and love is better than anything money can buy, isn’t it?
Matthew 7:24-27
Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall. Matthew 7:24-27
This is a beloved parable for us and I think of it often. Am I building my house on the rock (God’s laws and commandments)? Are the words of Jesus important and life-giving to us? Is Christ the foundation of my home?
I don’t know about you but I don’t want my house to fall at the first hard time that comes our way. Only when we are founded on Christ and are following him with all of our hearts are we able to weather life’s storms.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
A prayer we can reap from these Bible verses for home construction comes from these verses.
Lord, we trust you with all of our hearts. We don’t want our own ways, we want to follow yours.
We acknowledge you are Lord and ruler over our family, home, and lives. Lead us on the path you want us to take. Guide our footsteps.
Isaiah 28:16
Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily. Isaiah 28:16
Christ is that stone! We want Christ to be our foundation. We want to follow Him in our lives and in our hearts. We want our children to praise Him.
Lord, may you be the center of our new home. May it bring you glory. I pray we always put you first and that all who enter will feel your love and grace.
I want to switch directions now. Up until this point, we have been discussing verses about putting God first in our homes, and creating an environment pleasing to Him while remembering that this world is only temporary. Our true home is in Heaven.
I mentioned at the beginning of this post how stressful building a home is with all of the many decisions to be made. I want these next verses to remind you to relax and put some of your worries into God’s hands.
Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
I have experienced some dark times in my life and satan has often brought this verse up to me. He would want me to question and doubt. Scripture says God is working all things for my good, but this is not good.
Know that when you put your life in God’s hands, no matter what is happening, it is good. Only goodness comes from God. It may feel heart breaking or you may feel lost and confused, but
God is working out things you cannot see and He will never let you down.
Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
I find myself giving my anxiety to God over and over. Apparently, I am good at taking it back! At least I’m trying, right?
Don’t sit and stress about finances, deadlines, and making the wrong decision. Give it to God and praise Him for the process. He is building character in you while you are building a home!
Ephesians 4:1-3
I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:1-3
Our attitude needs to be one of love. When we are busy or stressed, it is difficult to be as polite and patient as we want to be.
That being said, Paul’s words are not a gentle suggestion, they are a command so we need to check out attitudes often.
Praise God that He has not left us to do life alone and will fill us with this love and peace when we ask Him to.
When we are filled with His love and peace, it flows out of us and onto our family, home, and friends.
Matthew 6:31-34
Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:31-34
One more word on perspective. I feel like I’ve hit this concept hard in this post, but it is so easy to get carried away with earthly concerns.
Don’t worry about the earthly. God is taking care of you. He will provide for you. Perhaps you are building your dream home or maybe an off-grid cabin is pulling at your heart.
