Bible Verses About Being a Woman of God

Being a woman is an honor and a privilege. We can bring forth children and nurture them, build comfortable homes for our families, and be companions to our husbands.

But there is more power and blessing in being a woman of God. You have purpose and direction and you are precious and valuable in God’s kingdom.

Let’s dig into the Bible together and find out more about how to become a woman of God. This list will inspire, encourage and maybe even challenge you to become everything God wants you to be.

Proverbs 31:30

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.Proverbs 31:30 NIV

Being a Godly woman means understanding that our outward beauty is superficial. We don’t focus more on how we look but rather on how we honor God and bring him glory.

We are built for much more than this world and what will remain is our spirit. That’s why we focus on obeying and serving God while we are on earth. Fearing God means we are in awe of him and worship him with reverence because he is holy, all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present.

Psalm 139:14

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14 NIV

We have been made in God’s image and he deserves honor, respect, and reverence for making us the way we are. In God’s knowledge and wisdom, he made us for a purpose.

If you look at how our bodies work and the texture, frame, and function of each part, you can see that we are made with great wonders and with careful detail. As a woman, when you appreciate how you were created (and not the “flaws” the enemy brings your attention to) you can’t help but praise God.

Luke 1:45

You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.” Luke 1:45 NLT

Mary, the mother of Jesus was blessed because she believed in God’s promises. Similarly, as a woman of God, believe his promises in the Bible and he will reward you with favor and shower you with blessings.

Galatians 3:28

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28 NIV

In Christ, we are all one. That’s so encouraging to hear. Men and women are all children of God with equal rights. Jews and non-Jews are the same. God doesn’t have favorites. Because Christ died, we are now all the same.

Genesis 2:18

Now the Lord God said, “It is not good (beneficial) for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper [one who balances him—a counterpart who is] suitable and complementary for him.” Genesis 2:18 AMP

From creation, God decided that a man needed a woman as a companion for life. He created a woman to be a suitable helper to her husband.

Being a helper never means you’re inferior but actually that you’re a supporter, a fellow workmate who is strong, able, and very much needed in her husband’s life.

Ephesians 5:22

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Ephesians 5:22 ESV

Being a Godly woman means you submit to your husband in service to God. The same way you have to honor, respect, love, and submit to God as your leader is the same way you should submit to your own husband. Husbands also submit to God’s authority.

This never means you become a slave to your husband but rather that you are subject to his authority. Submission starts in the mind and is demonstrated in both words and actions.

Proverbs 14:1

The wise woman builds her house [on a foundation of godly precepts, and her household thrives], But the foolish one [who lacks spiritual insight] tears it down with her own hands [by ignoring godly principles]. Proverbs 14:1 AMP

A woman of God is full of wisdom and the foundation for all areas of her life is the word of God. She is guided by it as a mother, wife, employee, daughter, friend, and member of the church. She uses the Bible to inform her thoughts and guide her words and actions.

On the contrary, ignoring God’s word leads to foolishness and the building of a home on a foundation that can easily be shaken.

Proverbs 31:25

Strength and dignity are her clothing and her position is strong and secure; And she smiles at the future [knowing that she and her family are prepared]. Proverbs 31:25 AMP

God desires that we become strong women of God who are dignified in our lifestyle. That’s because we are the ambassadors of Christ and the light of the world.

A wise woman plans and prepares for her family’s future. She makes sure her family’s needs are met both for the present moment and tomorrow. She also trusts that God’s plans for her future are good and that give her hope.

1 Timothy 3:11

Women must likewise be worthy of respect, not malicious gossips, but self-controlled, [thoroughly] trustworthy in all things. 1 Timothy 3:11 AMP

Gossip is one of the most toxic traits found among women. As Godly women though, we should respect ourselves and the privacy of others. Others should be able to trust us with confidential information because they know we don’t gossip.

Having self-control is one of the fruit of the Holy Spirit and when he lives in us, we will be able to bear fruit.

Proverbs 12:4

An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones. Proverbs 12:4 ESV

Ruth 3:11

And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you ask, for all my fellow townsmen know that you are a worthy woman. Ruth 3:11 ESV

What does it mean to be a woman of God? It means being your husband’s pride and joy. When you bring honor and dignity to your husband because of the way you speak, live, and act, you become a wife of noble character.

Ruth is an example of a woman who was worthy and honorable. Boaz knew it and so did the whole town.

Proverbs 19:13

A foolish child is a father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like the constant dripping of a leaky roof. Proverbs 19:13 NIV

Proverbs 21:9

Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife. Proverbs 21:9 NIV

From these scriptures, we can see that tension, fighting, and quarreling frustrate our husbands and they’d rather not be around a woman who likes to argue and fight. Because Jesus Christ is the Prince of peace, he is also displeased with tensions and fights.

Being a woman of God means you don’t quarrel with your husband all the time. Even if you disagree with him, you can express yourself respectfully and lovingly.

1 Peter 3:3-4

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1 Peter 3:3-4 NIV

Proverbs 11:22

As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout, So is a beautiful woman who is without discretion [her lack of character mocks her beauty]. Proverbs 11:22 AMP

The world places a huge emphasis on our physical beauty as women. But as Christians we see that God cares more about our inner beauty, having a humble personality and a good character.

What about the gentle and quiet spirit especially for those of us who are outspoken with an extrovert personality? A gentle and quiet spirit is a humble, kind, peaceful person, who doesn’t quarrel and fight with others and who has a sensitive disposition. Whether you’re shy or bold, you can still demonstrate this disposition.

Acts 18:26

When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God even more accurately. Acts 18:26 NLT

A woman of God knows the Bible because she intentionally invests time and effort in reading and studying it. She can confidently share what she knows with others patiently and humbly.

Titus 2:3-5

Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good. These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God. Titus 2:3-5 NLT

We are all older women to the young ones in the church and community and God says we are to be their examples and teach them what is good.

This doesn’t mean we are perfect but we have wisdom from hindsight, age, and the Bible and we can impart that to the younger women and wives.

Proverbs 6:20

My son, be guided by your father’s [God-given] commandment (instruction) And do not reject the teaching of your mother; Proverbs 6:20 AMP

2 Timothy 1:5

I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. 2 Timothy 1:5 ESV

Proverbs 31:26

She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Proverbs 31:26 ESV

These Bible verses about a woman of God show us that we should teach our children the Word of God and show them how to be obedient to its principles through our lifestyle.

The Bible makes us wise and helps us grow our faith and that’s the legacy we should pass down to our children.

God wants to bless generations and he has been doing so since the days of Abraham. Timothy’s mother Eunice and grandmother Lois passed on their faith to him and we should desire to do the same.

God values women who prioritize his word above all else. When you allow the Bible to guide your decisions, your behavior, and your words, you are precious in his eyes.
