How We Should Encourage as Christians

Now that we’ve established what God says about our purpose in life, let’s look at how we should encourage others as Christians. A supportive role is something we all should strive for to stay motivated, feel loved, and build confidence in our knowledge of God’s promises.

Not only does it improve us spiritually, but it also strengthens our mental and physical health. Let’s see what God’s Holy Word says about how to uplift each other in a positive, godly way.

Scripture is very clear in that we are to always use our words to lift others up and encourage them.

  • Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29
  • Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11
  • But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. Hebrews 3:13
  • And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25
  • Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:3-4
  • Let us, therefore, make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Romans 14:19
