God’s Doing a New Thing

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3:22-24 ESV

Are you looking forward to seeing what the year 2025 will bring? Most likely, the past year was nothing like you expected, and hoping for something better – something new is understandable.

Maybe you are trusting God to do something new in your heart, health, career, family, or even in your relationships. Or even longing for the Lord to do something to bring peace, hope, and healing to our nation and world.

God Is Doing A New Thing

The encouragement for you today is to know that God is on the throne. He always has and always will be!

And despite not being able to see what He is doing, we can trust that God is doing a new thing that extends beyond our finite understanding of space and time.

The thing is that you have to be open to allowing God to do something new in your life this year! Too often, we get stuck in our ways and are resistant to change.

If it scares you or is totally out of your comfort zone, then God is pushing you to step out in faith so He can lead you to something new and amazing!

God’s Mercies Are New Every Morning

In Lamentations 3:22-24 (ESV), there is a promise about the character of God that we would do well to hold on to not only in the newness of this calendar year but for the rest of our days:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

Do you see the promise? God’s mercies are new every morning! Therefore, we would do well to put our hope in Him – not in our dreams, desire, and expectations.

Why? Because these things will cease, they will end, and ultimately putting our hope in these things will leave us hungry for more.

The Lord is Your Portion

So no matter what we experience in 2022, let’s be filled with the hope that God brings in His Word – that His mercies are new every morning.

Not every calendar year but every morning!

A Prayer For God’s Renewal

Father, we thank you for your love and faithfulness. That you sustain me and are always extending your grace and mercy every moment of every day. May I trust in your provision of care for me as I go about my days, always leaning into the hope I have in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Reflection:

  1. In what areas of your life do you feel God might be calling you to step out of your comfort zone? How can you take a small step of faith in that direction this week?
  2. What “old ways” of thinking, habits, or routines might you need to let go of to fully embrace the new thing God is doing in your life?
  3. Lamentations 3:22-24 says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” How does this truth bring you comfort during times of uncertainty or change?
  4. Do you find yourself placing hope in things like personal goals, relationships, or financial success? How can you shift your focus to place your hope fully in the Lord as your portion?
  5. What new thing would you like to see God do in your life this year, and how can you actively prepare your heart and mind to receive it with openness and trust?
