Praying for a rebellious teenager can make all the difference but we can often get lost in the emotion of it all that we forget how to pray when under spiritual attack or don’t know where to start.
Teenage prayer ideas can help as prayer starters so when your home gets hit in a way you never thought it would, you have a resource to turn to.
Prayer starters are a great way to jump-start the process of praying for a rebellious teenager but it’s important to pay attention and allow the Holy Spirit to speak. The Lord is a personal God.
He is such an intentional, unique, and intimate God to you and your needs. Therefore, these are meant to help begin the process but allow room for the Lord to be thorough with the process by leading you where He needs to.

Deliverance Prayer for my Teenager
Sometimes we have to clean spiritual house first so we can work on the other practical areas of our teenager’s life. There are 3 areas you may want to focus on first and then allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in any other areas that may pop up.
You will be given prayer starters to start the conversation between you and your Almighty King. This is not an exhaustive prayer list for a good reason. I pray you will connect with the Holy Spirit and He will lead you, your words, and your actions for the rest.
- Your home– As you pray over your home (if you are a married couple, do this together if at all possible), ask the Lord if there have been any open doorways you or your husband have opened to the spiritual realm, this could be in the form of pornography, certain friendships you two have, people you have allowed into your home, family tragedies, or scary movies. This will look different in every home. As things start to come up, ask for forgiveness, and His Holy Spirit cleansing in any and all areas.
- Their room– Teens usually get gifts, buy things, or participate in certain activities that can open doorways to demonic activity in their lives. For example, with playing certain video games through apps, gaming systems, or on their computer, they may be unaware of what they are inviting into their space. There was a blog post about certain app game which ends with the player being challenged to commit suicide. We don’t what is out there and what they have been exposed to. Walk through their room and even if it seems trivial, remove items the Holy Spirit places on your heart and ask what to do with them.
- Your child– Set aside some time for you and one other person (preferably your spouse and maybe another person) who are Christian to lay hands on your teenager and pray over them. It can be very difficult to make headway when other forces are keeping them from receiving healing, guidance, and love. Remember, the Lord sent out His disciples two by two on purpose. There is endurance, wisdom, and strength in numbers when we link up with other believers on behalf of our family.
PrayerStarters:
- Home: Lord Jesus Christ, show me where I need to pray and how I need to pray. I lift up my home to You and ask for Your cleansing from the very top to the very bottom, and around the property line. I pray over every room, passageway, and entrance. May You send Your army of angels to stand post and protect this home.
- Room: Lord Jesus Christ, I pray over my teen’s room and ask for revelation. I pray you show me where to pray, what to get rid of, and how to pray in their room. May You send Your warrior angels to come in and cleanse this room of anything that is not from you.
- Teen: Lord Jesus Christ, I lift up my teen to You and ask for Your Holy cleansing over their life. If there is anything within them that is not of You, I ask that You come in and cleanse them from all powers and principalities, anything said against them, any doorways that have been opened to be shut, in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ.
15 Teenage Prayer Ideas
These next teenage prayer ideas are for your teen but some are also focused on you. We can only control so much by setting Godly standards in our home, enforcing Godly discipline, and providing for our children the best we can.
The rest is up to God. It can be a humbling truth but there are ways to stand firm in that truth and allow the Lord to heal us while also restoring them.
Prayer for Clarity
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5 ESV
Lord Jesus Christ, I ask for wisdom in my teen’s situation. You have eyes where I don’t and know that which I don’t. I pray for significant details, information to be revealed that has been hidden, and for people to come forward who have been silenced. Lead me where I should go and speak to those who may know more so I can start the restoration process for my teen.
Prayer for Communication
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29 ESV
Lord Jesus Christ, I ask for wisdom in speaking the right words to my teen, so they cannot only hear but listen to sound instruction. I pray to speak their language and for Your timing in approaching these challenging and often uncomfortable matters. I pray all communication will be a step forward even if the conversations seem like a step backward.
Prayer for Patience
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.” James 1:19 ESV
Lord Jesus Christ, I pray for patience for both myself and my teen. I pray for the patience to listen and patience over them to learn how to speak. Allow calm to resonate in our dealings with each other so there can be room for understanding on both parts. I pray You watch and direct both of our words so they lead to healing and not further destruction.
Prayer for Endurance
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” Romans 12:12 ESV
Lord Jesus Christ, I pray for the endurance to fight the battle in the ebbs and flow of this struggle. I pray against distraction that will keep me from praying consistently for my teen even when restoration seems far and tribulation seems close. Even if I crawl to your presence, may I continue to seek it because at Your feet is where I will find everything I need to endure this season.
Prayer for Support
Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.” 1 Peter 3:8 ESV
Lord Jesus Christ, I ask for a team of people to come alongside us. We ask for prayer warriors to help us lift our family before you. Show us who to trust and who to let go. I pray for Godly people to pour into my teenager’s life when I am not around. I pray for eyes around them to be open to their needs, so they can have life spoken into them from every direction.
Prayer for Vision
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 ESV
Lord Jesus Christ, I pray my teen’s eyes would be opened for the plan you have for them, even if it’s just a few steps. I pray they would start to see the direction of their life and the truth that they do have a purpose. I ask for Godly people to come and speak life into them in that particular area. May You send Godly mentors to help oversee them in the place You have set aside for them. I cancel any assignments from the enemy against their purpose, life, present, and future.
Prayer for Promise
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.” Psalm 127:3-5
Lord Jesus Christ, I pray for this reminder of who my teen is in my life. I ask for a renewed mind even in the wake of betrayal, hurt, or whatever else may seek to take my eyes off You. Remind me of this verse and the gift of their life You have given me when I am tempted to think otherwise. Take me back to the beginning and remind me of Your promises.
Prayer for Discipline
For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11
Lord Jesus Christ, I pray for wisdom in how and when to discipline my teen and their life you gave me to steward. Help me stay firm in the choice to do so even when I want to give in. Remind me of the purpose of discipline and how it honors You when we set Godly standards in our home. I pray for our home to be an example of standing true to our beliefs even if our teen has chosen to stand outside of that.
Prayer for Strength
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
Lord Jesus Christ, I lift up my teen and myself to You. I pray we do not work off our own strength in our healing and restoration. I pray we are reminded of the beauty of the Gospel every single morning. When we open our eyes in the morning, when we discuss difficult matters, when we deal with the aftermath of sin, and when we deal with each other in our home I pray we are reminded of Your mercies in these matters. May we look to You for help in all the details of this season.

Prayer for Relationship
Hebrews 11:6: And without faith, it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Lord Jesus Christ, I pray my teen will have a real, deep, and intimate relationship with You. I pray they will seek Your face and draw close to You, the Word, and everything that encompasses Who You are. I lift up my teen to You and ask for a Holy Spirit cleansing so they will be able to receive, hear, and experience you in a way they never have before.
Prayer for Renewal
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
Lord Jesus Christ, I pray for your truth of never-ending love and compassion for us to ring true in me and my teenager’s life. I pray every morning in our lives will be a tangible gift for us to start again no matter how far I or they have come from You. As the break of day comes, I pray we will see our lives in the light of Your love and know we are not consumed by any past mistakes but restored by Your past victory on the cross.
Prayer for Obedience
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:1-4
Lord Jesus Christ, I pray for my teen to learn how to obey even the smallest requests, so they will learn how to obey when the bigger things come to threaten our Godly standards both within our home and within themselves.
I pray for a heart of obedience to be led by their love and dedication to You as their Lord and Savior. I pray they will see the fruit of their obedience and become Holy angry against that which has destroyed some things but not everything not just in their life but in the lives of others as well. I pray I will also be careful on how I present my requests so I can stand firm and unwavering by the delivery of it.
Prayer for Peace
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
Lord Jesus Christ, I lift up my home to you and everyone in it. I pray as we wait out the storm to see how extensive the damage is we will be at peace knowing You will never leave us even during this time. I pray we will allow the peace You have gifted us through Your Son to resound in our hearts when our pain is deafening. Thank you for the gift of peace that surpasses what we see before us and I pray it will follow us as we go to sleep at night.
Prayer for Salvation
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:38-39
Lord Jesus Christ, I lift up my teen’s soul to You. Even if they have claimed You as a young child, I pray they will claim You once again as a teenager and into their adult life. I pray anything that has kept them from furthering their relationship with you will be removed in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Their soul is at stake and I pray to do all I can to bring them before Your throne so when I stand before You I know I did all I could to teach them Your ways and show You as Almighty King. I know there comes a point where they will have to decide for themselves. I ask for protection and peace over myself during this time.
Prayer for Sorrow
For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.” 2 Corinthians 7:10
Lord Jesus Christ, I pray for a Holy Sorrow in my teen, so they can both see the extent of the damage they caused but also see the hope of restoration in You. I pray they will acknowledge the wrong that has been done while moving with the Holy Spirit for reconciliation in those relationships and areas that need mending. I pray they will be overcome with sorrow so they are motivated to live for You and shift their heart in Your direction.
Again, these are just prayer starters to help you get the ball rolling in spiritual warfare and gain more knowledge on how to pray when under spiritual attack. This is not an exhaustive list so be sure to write down what the Lord has placed on your heart. Remember, not to just pray for your teen but for yourself as well. He cares for you too.
