Listening and understanding the Word of God builds up our spiritual strength. We all face conflicts that test our faith from time to time, so we must be spiritually prepared to face and overcome these challenges.

Going to church regularly is a good habit. We can honor and praise the Father in the church as well.

It is a place where we come together to publicly demonstrate our trust and faith in God, as is required of all Christians. 

God didn’t call us to come together and worship to burden us but to bless us. One of the greatest blessings in your life and the life of your family can be attending church.

The Bible teaches that we must go to church to worship God with other believers and receive instruction in His Word for our spiritual growth.

These are the 9 Reasons why Going to Church is Important for Christians. The Christian life becomes more joyful, peaceful, and faith-filled when you do it alongside other church people.

Why Should We Go To Church According to the Bible

Many people say that one of the main reasons they don’t attend church services regularly is that they practice their faith in other ways.

Others haven’t found a place of worship they like, they struggle with a lack of time, they don’t like the sermons, or the church leaders or they have been hurt by the church community before. 

Most of these reasons are about the person and not about God. Yet life as a Christian is all about obeying the Lord’s instructions. Unless you’re in poor health, going to church is important for the Christian life. 

So, what does the Bible say about going to church? After all, it’s our source of authority as it’s one of the effective ways God speaks to us. Let’s take a look at some of the key scriptures that inspire church attendance.

” And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”  Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV)

Meeting with others is a way to encourage each other to be loving and do good deeds.

These meetings include church meetings and also small meeting groups which can be in the homes of the groups.

We experience spiritual growth from the experiences and faith of others. 

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:10 (NIV)

God wants us to be kind and do good things for all people around us.

He goes to put a special mention to the church family that we should especially be good to them. We do this when we attend church regularly and meet with others. 

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”  1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)

The gifts God has given us are to serve others and we do that in the church. As faithful stewards, of the gifts we are to use these gifts to serve church people. 

“Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.”  Matthew 10:32-33 (NLT).

Going to church is a way of acknowledging that we know Jesus Christ and confess our faith to him. It’s a way to courageously declare our faith to those around us. 

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” Exodus 20:8 (NIV)

The seventh day of the week is specifically designated as a holy day to the Lord in God’s fourth commandment.

Even God rested on the 7^th day, after creating the world for 6 days and he advises us to rest and set aside a day to worship him weekly. 

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the LORD is good;  his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” Psalm 100:4-5 (ESV). 

After a long week at school or work, we need a day to thank God for his protection, sustenance, and love so we go to church and express our gratitude to God for he is the source of everything in our lives. 

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

We should therefore make the most of every opportunity we have to hear the preaching and teaching of God’s Word and the church is a great place to do that.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Matthew 28:19–20 (NIV)

The church is a vehicle for evangelizing to the lost and helping them grow in their faith. We grow up to become disciples of Christ as we do life with others of the same faith. 

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Psalm 133:1 (NIV)

God loves to see his children united as one. We do that best when we gather to worship and glorify him in the church. 

Why Go to Church

God’s will is for us to gather with others and worship him.   Any church building doesn’t automatically qualify as a church just because there are lots of people inside. I

It’s important to pray and carefully find a biblical place of worship today. Not a perfect church because that doesn’t exist but one where the truth of God’s word is preached. 

There is a special blessing that God releases when we are gathered together in one spirit. Here are some important reasons why you should always attend church:

Going to Church is Important Because it’s a symbol of our love for God

We go to church because it serves as a symbol of our love for God. Going to church is a practical way for us to show God how much we love him. 

The church is referred to as the “Bride of Christ” because it is so important to Jesus Christ. He gave himself up for the bride and as the church community, we are compelled to love him as well.

Going to Church is a Way to Serve God

The main reason most people go to church is for personal reasons which is to be blessed.

Although there is nothing wrong with this, we must remember that the main reason for going to church is to bring “service” to God as a blessing to Him because the Lord deserves to be honored with service and devotion. 

After a hard day of activities and work, God wants us to pause, slow down, and remember that he is our source of strength in all we do.

While we can do that at home, going to church helps us meet with like-minded people, be encouraged in our faith, and honor the Lord’s Day or Sabbath day.

Going to Church is Important Because it is a Means of Obedience to God

The word of God in the scriptures stated earlier encourages us to meet together as a Body of Christ.

We all have different strengths and weaknesses so we build each other up and can experience spiritual growth together when we meet at church. 

God specifically instructs us not to give up meeting together as a community of faith and how important unity is to him. When we obey the Lord by being part of a church, we will be rewarded. 

Going to Church Strengthens Relationships with Other Christians

Gathering in church can have a positive impact on Christian fellowship. According to the Bible, a healthy relationship with God requires both fellowship with God and fellowship with the Church community as well. 

We cannot love God without also loving our brothers and sisters. Love for one another keeps us humble before God and through other church members, we can share and express that love. 

The church family can be there for you in times of need and you can always lean on them. As you interact with others, your character is molded and you become a better person. 

Going to Church is Important so That we Hear from God

 Have you ever sat in church and heard a sermon specifically targeted for you? You can wonder how the Pastor knows some of your inner thoughts and private activities. This is the power of the word of God. 

If you’re feeling stressed out, lost, confused, and helpless God can guide you, strengthen your faith, and give you peace, joy, and hope in all areas of life.

He desires to communicate with you, and the church is a good place to hear His voice in your heart and mind. 

Going to Church Helps us to Build Our Children’s Faith

A good Bible-believing church introduces our children to God and they can experience his love for them.

Allowing our kids to attend Sunday school helps them build strong values that will sustain them in the world when they grow older. 

Kids have very strong and sharp memories.

Going to church at a young age helps to water the seeds of faith that are planted in their hearts. Bringing your children to church strengthens your family.

Children don’t only learn from what we say but from what we do as well.

When we tell them that God is the priority in our lives they need to see that translating into how we prioritize our Christian faith both in the church and at home. 

Going to Church is an Important Way of Serving the Community 

The local church plays an important in our primary mission, which is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

To reach the entire world, you and the other members of your church can begin by serving your neighborhood.

The church functions as the hands and feet of Jesus Christ by serving and demonstrating God’s word in the community. You can serve in a variety of ways within your local church which can have an impact on God’s Kingdom. 

Through volunteer and charity work the church can meet new people, and offer physical help as a way of evangelizing and showing the Lord’s love. 

We Go to Church to Worship God

The church is referred to as the house of worship. We instantly become more open to God and more focused on his message when we enter the church.

It’s not about attending religious services but experiencing the power of God when we meet. 

The Spirit of the Lord moves when we worship Him in one spirit with God’s people who have experienced his goodness.

Corporate worship is an important part of church services and should be a strong motivator for people to attend. 

Not only do we get to enjoy being in God’s presence, but he also deserves our worship. Although it can be an amazing experience, worship is about our hearts of gratitude to God.

We should never forget that we are coming to God’s house with hearts of gratitude along with other fellow believers.

The church is the Perfect Place to Use our Spiritual Gifts 

The church is called the body of Christ. Just like a body has many parts which have a purpose as a church we all have a part to play. 

God blessed each of us with spiritual gifts when we became Christians.

The purpose of the gifts is for the common good. Don’t waste your incredible gift but instead take what God has given you and use it for the good of all.

The gifts we have are used to encourage one another, to express God’s love, and to serve the community around us. 

Participating in the Church community is important because that is what God desires for you. Everything that we do as believers is not based on feelings but based on obedience to God.

Next time you doubt why you should go to church remember that for all the above reasons and more, a believer’s life should include regular church attendance, participation, and fellowship.

We should not lead a Christian life in isolation but together with God’s people in the church.

When you do this you are obeying the Lord and carrying out God’s will. Remember that a church building doesn’t automatically qualify as a church just because there are lots of people inside.

Don’t go to a worldly church, but instead find a biblical place of worship today.

When God’s people gather in one place, he showers us with his presence and we experience joy, love, healing, grace, and peace together with others.
