7 Reminders That You are God’s Masterpiece

We live in an insecure world and it is easy to get caught up in the negativity.  Let’s fight some of that negativity and talk about the goodness of God toward us.  I want to share with you seven powerful reminders that you are God’s masterpiece.

Negativity bombards us on every side.  Social media shames us for not conforming, friends and family criticize, and neighbors compare.  We feel the need to defend ourselves and stick up for our choices.

Let’s take a step back from all of that and focus on one very important fact.  You are God’s masterpiece

Doesn’t that feel like a breath of fresh air?  Can you feel yourself relaxing?  You are God’s masterpiece!  He has a plan for you, a purpose for your life.  He loves you and calls you His own.

The world can have its negativity and fear of rejection.  I am loved and accepted by God.

Yes, You are God’s Masterpiece

What does it mean that we are God’s masterpiece?

It means that God is working in your life.  That He created you in His image, fashioned you with love and care, and wants what is good for you.

He wishes for you to grow in faith and in His goodness.  He wants to change your heart from the sinful one you were born with and renew it with His love, joy, peace, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, and all of the other spiritual attributes that belong to us as saved children of God.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  (Ephesians 2:10)

Powerful Reminders That You are God’s Masterpiece

It isn’t enough for me to say that you are God’s masterpiece.  I want to prove it.  I hope that you will take these verses and write them where you will see them often so that they integrate into your everyday thoughts.  They will chase away the negativity and self-doubt.

We are going to discuss these truths:

  • You were created in the image of God
  • You are fearfully and wonderfully made
  • God knew you even before you were born
  • God has a plan for you
  • You are treasured
  • He calls you HIS child
  • You are God’s workmanship

You are Created in the Image of God

Man himself was created in the image of God.  He was created as a physical being with a spirit that lives on forever.  We are spiritual by nature, always seeking to serve a higher power.

When God created the world, he spoke it into existence, but when God created man, He breathed life into him.  This makes us different from all other creation.

Genesis 1:26-27 says “Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Of course when Adam and Eve sinned, we lost that spiritual connection with God.  Man has been seeking to unite with it ever since (thus the many different religions and gods through the ages)

Now, with the redeemed spirit that we have because of Christ’s work on the cross, Paul tells us that we “have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” (Colossians 3:10)

You are fearfully and wonderfully made social graphic

You are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

I have always been negative about my looks.  I am not a pretty girl and was very insecure as a teen/ young adult.  Do you know what finally got me over that negative self-talk?

The idea that I am fearfully and wonderfully made.    How could I be down on myself when God made me exactly how He wanted me to be?  He fashioned me Himself, loved me unconditionally, and made me who He wanted me to be.  And what’s even better is that even when I give up on myself, He never does!

When we stop and think about being God’s masterpiece and how personally God is invested in us, it takes away the insecurities and the pain the world brings us.  God is working in your life because He loves you.

He is the potter and you are the clay.  The God who made you is forming you into something amazing.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalm 139:14)

I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’

Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth— everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” (Isaiah 43:6-7)

God knew you before you were born social graphic

God Knew You Even Before You Were Born

Oh, to know the heart of God!  He loved you before anyone else did.  He called you His own before your mother did.  God planned for you to exist right now at this time for a reason.  That’s powerful, isn’t it?

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. (Psalm 139:15-16)

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.  (Ephesians 1:4)

God has a plan for you social graphic

God Has a Plan for You

If you are at a crossroads or feel as if you are drifting, know that God has a plan for you.  He will navigate circumstances for you, open doors (and close them!) when you are seeking His will.

I think that last part is key.  Praying about God’s will for your life.  The following verses show that God has a plan for you, but you must do your part and seek it out.

Doesn’t resting in the knowledge that God has a plan for you and is guiding your footsteps relieve some pressure?  Fall into step with Him and allow Him to lead.  He will take away the doubt and confusion.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[i] have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. (Psalm 32:8)

You are treasured social graphic

You are Treasured

There is a part, sometimes hidden, in all of us that wish to be treasured?  Isn’t that the longing of many of our hearts?  I believe we are seeking that connection with God, the one Adam and Eve had before they sinned.

Let me tell you, that it is still to be found.  God still treasures you and loves you more than you’ve ever been loved before.  He has never left you and has been standing beside you with open arms.

Don’t forget, you are God’s masterpiece.  He created you, formed you, and poured His love and grace upon you.  You are treasured.

The children of Israel were chosen by God for Him to reveal Himself and His truths to.  He blessed them, guided them, forgave them, and loved them.  Zacheriah 2:8 refers to Israel as “the apple of God’s eye”.

To me, “the apple of God’s eye” means the center of His attention.  Peter tells us that this translates to all who believe in Christ.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9)

He calls you his child social graphic

He Calls You His Child

We are children of God and if you are a parent, you know what that love and dedication entails.  You would do anything for your child including sacrificing your own life.  If we, being sinful and earthly, feel so strongly about our children, imagine what God feels toward you.

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.  Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.  (Romans 8:15-17)

Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.  (Galatians 4:6-7)

You are God's workmanship social graphic

You are God’s Workmanship

“God’s still working on me, to make me what I ought to be…” is a song we used to sing as kids, and what a perfect truth to end this post with.  You may not feel like God’s masterpiece.  You may feel as if you’ve messed up, wasted your life, took too many wrong turns, but let me tell you, God’s still working on all of us.

He is still working on you.  He doesn’t give up on His masterpiece.

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.  (Philippians 1:6)

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)

Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.  (Isaiah 64:8)
