As humans, our natural inclination is to try to be in control of every circumstance in our lives. When life isn’t going our way, we don’t trust God.
It is so easy to get in the mindset that we can “take the wheel” from Him, to boss Him around, and try to force Him to do things our way.
We believe that we are in charge of our lives. If you do everything your way, it will all go right. My way or the highway, right?
We learn time and time again that no matter what God is always in control. We can’t have our hands on the steering wheel while giving God control at the same time.
He is the one taking you exactly where you are supposed to go while at the same having us exactly where we are supposed to be. God wants us to know that His plan is perfect.
He only wants what is absolutely best for His children. So why not let Him drive your life instead?

Give it to God and Let Go
The unknown is scary. It’s hard to not want to control how your future will turn out. We get anxious if things don’t go as planned. We doubt God’s ability to lead and guide us.
The process of giving God control and letting things go is definitely not easy. When life gets out of control, when we know we are in trouble, when life forces us to realize that we’re powerless to save ourselves, we must give it to God and let go.
We must call out to Him in our times of need. He will always show up. He will be there with the perfect advice, the perfect answer at the perfect time.
When we do, we will realize that we take our intimate relationship with Him for granted, trying to live life on our own, and not very successfully.
The good news is that there is always a blessing and God’s goodness attached to the other end of giving it to God and letting go.
Bible Verses About Giving God Control
I don’t know about you but I have never had success bossing or manipulating someone while trying to trust them simultaneously.
Trying to be in control and giving God control just doesn’t work – they can’t co-exist. We must come to realize that He is in control of every aspect of our lives.
He has your best interest in mind. He wants you to live the purposeful life that He has predestined for you. He knows what we need much better than we do.
God made us to lean on Him in dependence. He is on your side and worthy of your trust. If we cling to God, He will hold us and guide us to live our best life for Him.
In order to do so, we have to seek Him daily, remain in prayer, and remind ourselves what the Bible says about giving God control.
- Then He said to them all, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will save it. Luke 9:23-24
- We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
- For I know the plans I have for you”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
- Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
- Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34
- Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6
- Our God is in heaven and does whatever He pleases. Psalm 115:3
- When I am filled with cares, Your comfort brings me joy. Psalm 94:19

How To Give God Control
We often try to control our lives so much so that we forget God exists. We don’t want to surrender because we are afraid of what will happen in the future.
We might believe Him but we don’t trust Him. The truth is we have little control over our own lives. The more control you seek in your life, the less you actually have.
Embrace the life God has planned for you. Allow Him to shape your life as He wills. Our job is to live faithfully and obediently in what He has called us to do.
There is nothing sweeter than surrendering control to God and letting Him have the burden of your worries.
Faith is the opposite of seeking control. It is surrendering control. It embraces the truth that control is an illusion – we never had it and we never will.” – Skye Jethani, With: Reimagining the Way You Relate to God.
In order to live purposeful, passion-filled lives, we must surrender all control to God. God knows our lives more than we do.
He has the perfect plan laid out for our lives. By giving God control, we discover freedom from the burden of control.
Are you ready to trust God and give Him control?
Let God Take the Wheel
When everything is going well, it seems easy to forget that there’s a much greater plan for your life. It’s easy for us to want to control our surroundings and circumstances. And when things get off track it’s hard to admit that you need help. God is patiently waiting for you to let Him take the wheel. He remains faithful in spite of our unfaithfulness. All you have to do is ask for directions and let God take the wheel.
God’s plan will always be better. No matter how much you try to control your life, God’s will is what you should strive for. That means giving Him full control of our lives because He knows exactly what He is doing. Give God the keys and surrender to His will. When you choose God to be in control of your life, you can experience true peace and freedom knowing He has a plan for you.

Give it to God in Prayer
Whatever you are going through, give it to God in prayer. It’s more than telling Him what you want and demanding Him to provide it. Open up to God and take the time to share what is on your heart. We have a Heavenly Father who wants to hear our requests and who is faithful to answer us, though it may not always be the answer we want.
God delights when you pray. He wants us to come into His presence. He wants to hear our needs. He listens, He blesses, He corrects, and He forgives. You must humble yourself in giving God control so He can show you the way to a peaceful life.
“Lord, I come before you humbly allowing you to take the wheel. I surrender all control to you. Father, you drive. Lord, take control. You know what is best for me. I long to desire what You desire. Help me to give it all to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
Learning to trust and giving God control is a lifelong process. We have to choose to trust Him. We have to choose to give up control. There is hope because God will be there every step of the way. He promises that you will never venture into the future alone. So embrace the life God has for you!
