Mama, You Are Blessed!

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her”  Proverbs 31:28 NIV

Do you wake up every morning feeling blessed? There was a time in my life not too long ago when the alarm would sound off every morning and I would drag myself out of bed feeling MISERABLE. Every negative thought would flood my mind as I reluctantly threw on my clothes before teaching English online at 4 in the morning.

Proverbs 31:28 says,

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her”

As a wife and mom, this is one of the most important messages you desire to hear, yet, having this sour attitude would surely not give me any blessings.

There would be no praise in this household ANY TIME SOON unless I changed my outlook. Yet, I was in this vicious cycle I couldn’t get out of — I was a victim, a slave, to my own sinful thoughts.

Every morning, I’d ask myself the same rhetoric questions or negative comments like….

Why do I have to get up so early?

Why am I the only one waking up with these ungodly hours!

Will I ever get enough sleep?

Look at my husband, he’s so nice and cozy in bed. Yay, me! *sarcasm*

Why did I get a crazy job like this!

Then, God got a hold of my heart. It all happened while reading a thought-provoking passage in the Bible.

As I meditated and memorized these key points of the convicting Bible Verse Philippians 4:8 – it reminded me…

whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise,
think on these things.

Once I started transforming my negative thoughts into these Biblical thinking habits, it changed my life. This is now my go-to scripture verse when the 3 D’s creep into my mind: depression, doubt, and discouragement.

Now that a few years have passed by, while I can’t tell you whether my kids and husband would call me blessed, I certainly say I am blessed every morning when I wake up. Plus, my good report to you is the healthy relationships developed with my spouse and kids are just a few of the many fruits that came out of God’s game-changing words.

It’s true, I have setbacks, but when I consistently commit my thoughts to the Lord, everything else in my life falls right into place.

Ladies, if you struggle with any of these destructive ‘D’ deeds, instead…

Think on any of these things: truth, honesty, purity, lovely thoughts, and good report

And, I promise, you will be called ‘blessed’ too!

Let’s Pray, my friends:

Lord, I am so blessed to wake up every morning in your care. When I struggle with doubts, depression, or discouragement, please remind me of your words in Phillipians 4:8. Remind me of the Truth in your Word, the Honesty of your Son, the Purity of the Spirit, the lovely thoughts of gratitude, and the good report to share with my family and anyone I meet today. Keep my thoughts focused on you.
